A water main break in downtown Corner Brook is keeping crews busy. Shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday, city crews were called to the Millbrook Mall and had water shut off by 6:15 p.m.
Then, about 20 minutes later, an “unrelated” break occurred on Burke’s Road. Mayor Jim Parsons says it was shut off by 7:45 and water was restored to the area by 5 p.m. on Sunday. He says a corroded valve led to a leak there, and there’s no indication the break at the Millbrook Mall was related.
On average, the city might get approximately 30 water main breaks, between the months of November and April, usually due to the ground shifting during the colder months, Parsons says. The Millbrook Mall break occurred on private property owned by Sterling Group and is being handled by contractors.
