The area near the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on University Drive has been prone to a number of recent sinkholes. There is a large, aging, culvert that needs to be replaced. Just after completing the two year Mt. Bernard Reconstruction project, work has now started next to it on the Deep Gulch Project. Mayor Jim Parsons says the culvert is about 50 feet down underneath the intersection / University Drive. The project will involve installing two very deep storm sewer lines. Work is ongoing now on the end wall where pipes will come out and water will flow into Corner Brook stream. The scope of the project includes the placement of 135 metres of new high density polyethylene twin culverts and two new headwalls.
