Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. has applied to harvest wood and construct a road in the city’s protected water supply area but it has been voted down by council.
The company wanted to harvest approximately 330 hectares of forest and build 2.75 kms of road. At Monday night’s public meeting, Coun. Pamela Gill was the first to vote against it, saying all harvesting in that area should stop. Couns. Vaughn Granter and Charles Pender also voted against it. The area is in the vicinity of Corner Brook Lake and is the only source of water for Corner Brook, Massey Drive and Mount Moriah.
