PALMERSTON – The developer behind a proposed 20-unit apartment building in Palmerston got the zoning approval it needed to continue with the project on Tuesday.
Some neighbours of the site at 255 Norman St. expressed concerns about the size of the building, including the neighbour across the street who feared it would encroach on the nearby rail trail. Applicant Caroline Prochazka assured council that would not happen and most likely they would replace a derelict fence separating the property from the trail.
Greg Porter owns a custom cabinetry shop beside the property. He wrote to council with concerns the apartment’s residents might use his garbage bins to dispose of waste. Prochazka told council that a private company would be hired to collect waste from the apartment so residents would have no motivation to use Porter’s bins.
Planning staff also shared a site plan that demonstrated there would be adequate parking, alleviating concerns the residents may park in Porter’s lot.
