A legal clinic in NDG is giving local youth direct support this holiday season. Head and Hands’ emergency legal fund will help eight young people navigate the legal system and keep out of legal trouble
Head and hands is a community Legal Clinic based in NDG. The clinic offers consultations with lawyers, follow up support, and aid for people navigating legal and government systems – with a focus on youth.
They say the support is especially needed for groups that often find themselves pushed into the legal system. Sex workers and racialized Montrealers were prioritized on the call for applicants. But even though the money can be used for legal fees and parking tickets, it’s also meant to give broader support to young people in tough situations. The group says that at-risk youth are more likely to end up in legal trouble due to a lack of resources. And if they can’t fix the root causes of inequality, they can still try to help.
The fund comes from community donations, and Head and Hands is hoping to run it again in the new year.
