After a successful Ontario Women’s Hockey League season with the Toronto Aeros under-22 AA team, Cobourg’s Kyla Fleming captured gold with Team Ontario at last week’s National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Grand Prairie, Alberta.
Fleming, who turned 17 on Wednesday, is a member of nearby Alderville First Nation.
Ontario was undefeated through the tournament, culminating with a 3-0 win over host Alberta in the championship final Sunday. Fleming also won gold earlier this year at the Little NHL tournament.
A student at Cobourg Collegiate Institute, Fleming will return to the Aeros next season and has future ambitions to play NCAA Division 1 hockey in the United States following high school graduation in 2025.
