Russell Township has announced the details of its upcoming by-election for the vacant council seat. Mayor Mike Tarnowski clarifies the process for candidates and discusses the choice of electronic and telephone voting. There will be no paper ballots, which Russell Township stopped using in 2014. At that time a mix up caused election results to be sent to the wrong municipalities meaning results were delayed by several hours. Tarnowski has faith in Intellivote, the company hired in later elections.
Also in the news this week, OPP investigate a single-vehicle accident on Highway 417 which critically injured a toddler, they arrest a young man driving erratically on the same road; and Russell Township fire departments receive two grants to buy equipment.
