The Russell Legion Hall, in Russell, Ontario, southeast of Ottawa, has been closed for three years due to a fire. Repairs are almost complete, but an occupancy permit had not yet been issued because of a few minor outstanding items. Regardless, the municipality granted the Legion permission to host the Remembrance Day service on November 11 and a Veterans’ dinner on November 9.
In other news, a 561-hectare area of the proposed Tewin subdivision in rural Ottawa at Carlsbad Springs has been recognized as a provincially significant wetland. This means development will not take place on the eastern edge of the lands owned by the developers, Taggart Group and the Algonquins of Ontario.
