The Civic Theatre in Nelson has raised over $50,000 to repair the roof of the Civic Centre. They have set a goal of $100 000 to reach by the end of the year.
Recent renovations and inspections revealed that the building did not meet the required standards. As a result, there has been a constant threat of closure throughout the winter season.
This is just one of the numerous challenges that Nelson’s only theatre has faced in recent years. From the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and increasing business expenses, to the Hollywood strike and the urgent need for a new roof, the non-profit theatre has struggled to maintain its operations.
