Members of the Kingston Environment, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee have unanimously approved additional efforts to prevent, remove, and report graffiti.
It is estimated the City deals with over 750 vandalism graffiti incidents annually, costing approximately $250,000.
The report presented to the committee from the City’s Commissioner, Infrastructure, Transportation and Emergency Services Brad Joyce recommends further action, especially in the realm of education and awareness.
The report also states that these crimes go largely unreported with little, if any, consequence to the offenders.
A communications plan providing residents with anti-graffiti resources will be completed by mid-2025. This will include information about ways to deal with hate graffiti, reporting tools, available street art programs, and organizing community clean-up programs.
