The City has provided their first public statement on their pursuit to purchase highly discussed Lemoine Point Farm property, sharing that they are currently in negotiations with estate trustees.
At this point, the City and Fraser’s estate trustees disagree on how to interpret parts of the will, and are now seeking advice and direction from the court.
Since the long-time owner passed away over two years ago, community members and organizations have put forth many suggestions for the future of the waterfront property, many of those avenues involving the city purchasing the site. Lodgepole Arts Alliance has also proposed an Indigenous creative centre at Lemoine Point Farm.
Jim Biagi, a member with the Save Lemoine Point Farm group, stated in an interview with CFRC, “I think we’re quite pleased that the City is so serious about both trying to acquire the property and, in their statement, indicating how they want to preserve the property for Kingstonians.”
