A public meeting was hosted by two community groups last week to share information about the proposed quarter billion dollar water/wastewater project slated for the County.
Over 500 residents came to the banquet hall at Wellington arena to understand the ramifications to ratepayers and taxpayers, and to find out how to put pressure on council to press pause.
Six County councillors were present including Wellington’s councillor Cory Engelsdorfer who said he opposes the waterworks expansion due to the lack of sound financial planning, overstated growth and incorrect commercial numbers and is asking the municipality to “slow down this runaway train”.
The mayor’s office did not respond to a request for comment but a document was published on August 19 by the County explaining the numbers. A decision will be made at the council meeting Aug. 27.
