Many questions were raised on January 6th about the new deal related to the Churchill Falls Generating Station in Labrador.
In December, the provincial government signed a MOU for a potential new deal with Quebec regarding revenues from the power plant. It was due to come into effect January 1st and led to a call for an “extraordinary” debate in the House of Assembly.
Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce says any project over $50 million dollars has to be sent to an oversight committee, which he says has not happened. This came from a $30 million dollar inquiry into the Muskrat Falls project, also in Labrador, which ran $6.1 billion over budget by completion in April 2023.
The debate will continue until January 9th.
