Centre Wellington is looking into regulating short-term rentals like Airbnbs and is looking to the public for guidance.
A survey is open now to get input from residents and visitors on what those regulations should look like.
Municipal Clerk Kerri O’Kane says the survey is not in response to complaints, saying those are few and far between and typically relate to parking and noise.
Staff have been researching how neighbouring municipalities regulate short-term rentals. The approaches vary and include licensing and capping the number of rentals, requiring neighbour and rental agreements, mandating a responsible person be available 24/7 and a demerit point system.
Centre Wellington has hired Maclaren Municipal Consulting to review the possible need for regulations. The survey is available here until the end of July.
Centre Wellington is also hosting two workshops June 19-20. If you would like to attend one of the workshops, email bourns@maclarenmc.ca or call 519-897-0768.
