The CBRM mayoral runner-up says he’ll campaign again for the position in 2028.
Joe Ward says he was not considered an early frontrunner in a field of nine candidates but his popularity grew throughout the campaign. The 47 year old, the youngest among the candidates, says a televised debate was a spring board for his popularity because the audience connected with his down-to-earth approach.
Ward says his base support from podcasting about local government also helped. Social media was the main way he used to reach voters, saying that campaign signs are vague, and canvassing in a large municipality is inefficient.
Ward says he’ll run again for mayor in four years because there is an appetite for change in the community. He says next time he’ll use social media to campaign but with mail flyers detailing his platform.
