Cape Breton Regional police say they are targeting drivers who leave their vehicles parked on municipal streets overnight.
A parking ban is in effect from 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM daily to clear the way for snowplow operators throughout the winter.
Constable Gary Fraser says they’ve handed out about a hundred $25 tickets since the ban started last month, and the vehicles were towed at the owner’s expense.
Fraser says they are stepping up patrolS this winter given the trouble snowplow operators had last year during a major snow storm.
About 150 cm fell over two days in mid-February, and Fraser says the Public Works Department struggled with snow removal because they had to maneuver around so many idle vehicles.
The annual overnight parking ban starts in mid-December and ends March 31st.
CKOA Radio spoke to Fraser about the overnight parking ban.
