The Sydney Victoria MP says he stands by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Even though there are calls for the PM to step down, Jaime Battiste says he’ll remain loyal to Trudeau in the new year.
Several Liberal MPs are calling for Trudeau to leave his post, but Battiste says his support continues because they share similar views on environment protection.
Meanwhile, Battiste will run in the next federal election even though he’s disappointed his home community of Eskasoni First Nation is being removed from his riding.
Battiste, Canada’s first elected M’kmaq MP, says although electoral boundaries across the country are changing to reflect its growing population, his home community of Eskasoni should remain under his watch because he understands the culture.
He adds he’ll be looking for support in 2025 to ensure Indigenous communities have safe drinking water.
CKOA Radio spoke to Battiste about his plans in the new year.
