Following diplomatic disagreement between Canada and India, and political pressure from within the country to cap the number of international students, an immigration attorney says Canada is losing appeal as a study destination.
Lawyer Marina Sadai, who practices in Surrey, told CIVL Radio that in addition to the changing immigration landscape, Canada is also competing with other nations for international students, particularly the United States, Australia, and United Kingdom.
In September, after the federal government blamed agents associated with the government of India in the assassination Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey; India issued a travel advisory warning citizens to use “caution,” when travelling to Canada.
