CafèTO is set to return on the Victoria Day weekend with the patios set up being ahead schedule. With the 90 per cent of patios set to open that weekend.
The program allows restaurants and cafes to expand their dining space to the sidewalk, curb and patios to have more outdoor space.
CafèTO will be entering its second year as a permanent program. Introduced in 2020 during the pandemic to allow resturants a way to stay open, it became a permanent fixture in 2023. With over 12 linear kilometres of public space allocated for outdoor dining opportunities, (according to a City of Toronto press release), patios and side walk cafes can be found across the city.
Over 1000 patios and 500 sidewalk cafes will be open city wide when the program is in full swing. The program will be running from May to Oct 15.
