A 47-team broomball tournament will soon be taking Fergus and Elmira by storm.
Broomball tournament organizer Brittany Dettman says the sport is much like hockey but with some distinct differences. She says players wear custom shoes to run on the ice surface and use a broom-shaped rubber stick to move an orange ball.
The event had to expand into Elmira to accommodate its rapid growth, Dettman said, noting the tournament’s location relative to host Palmerston has organizers excited to see the seats filled.
The games will get going on March 15 in Fergus and Elmira.
