There was plenty of uncertainty leading up to the Rossland Winter Carnival. Warm temperatures and rain led to the cancelation of the bobsled races just two days before their return. But on Friday, the Rossland Winter Carnival Society pivoted and announced the return of the event after a five year hiatus due to insurance reasons.
They were forced to shorten the course because of the inability to freeze the track. Instead of a typical ice track, it was combination of snow and slush and rain fell throughout the event. Despite the less than optimal weather, more than 500 people gathered to watch.
Rain continued throughout Saturday impacting the rail jam as well. Skiers and snowboarders managed to put on a show for roughly 200 people throughout the afternoon.
CJLY was at both events speaking to contestants and spectators about their experience.
