The dire need for physicians is a common problem across the province and country not to mention the stiff competition to acquire them. The good news for Prince Edward County is that four new physicians have been recruited.
Members of the Committee of the Whole heard this good news from County Docs Physician Recruiter Adam Hambly on November 30.
Two of them, Doctors Dineen and Branson, will start to practice this coming January. Dr. Lee will start in September, another in April 2025 and an additional thirty one leads are being followed.
In view of the upcoming budget talks, part of Hambly’s deputation included the request for a one time additional payment of $100,000.00 to be used as an incentive assisting physicians with the task of enrolling patients from the Health Care Connect list. There were numerous questions from the committee members including the need for Nurse Practitioners however, County Docs made it clear that recruiting NPs is out of their scope.
