October 9 marked the start of the 53rd edition of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma.
Running until Oct. 20, the festival has a little something for everyone, from big-buzz films from the festival circuit to independent gems that will never see a wide release.
Longtime festival collaborator Matthew Rankin, of The Twentieth Century fame, kicked off the festival with his second feature film, Universal Language. Another dreamlike film from the Canadian director, this one is set in alternate-reality Montreal and Winnipeg, with French and Farsi as the two key languages.
Programming Director Zoé Protat joins CKUT to share some festival favourites, as well as tips on how to find this year’s best and brightest.
