Starting Jan. 29, women and individuals with a cervix aged 25 to 69 can choose to order a free kit to self-screen for HPV.
This new kit will help with better prevention and detection of cervical cancer, as the BC government moves from the cytology Pap smear method to the self-screen test for HVP as the primary method.
BC Premier David Eby said at a press conference on Jan. 9 that the goal of eliminating a deadly cancer is now even more possible with the new at-home self-screening program.
Sandy Alexander, a nursing professor at Vancouver Island University, spoke to CHLY about the importance of screening for cervical cancer and how HPV can lead to it.
