Sonia Furstenau, the leader of the Green Party in B.C., recently described the severity of the opioid crisis in the province, describing it as a pressing public health emergency.
In a CIVL radio interview, Furstenau said that the crisis extends beyond Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley, affecting the entire province, with a devastating toll of six to seven lives lost daily. She attributed the crisis to a highly toxic drug supply controlled by organized crime.
Furstenau urged immediate government action, advocating for the regulation of a safe prescription drug supply and the provision of comprehensive support services ranging from education to mental health for individuals struggling with addiction.
