The Chiefs of Ontario (COO) Annual Chiefs Assembly and Ontario Regional Chief Election have begun on the Six Nations territory.
The event marks the 49th Annual Chiefs Assembly and the first time the event will be held on Six Nations at the Six Nations Sports and Cultural Memorial Centre.
This year’s assembly will follow the theme of “Coming Together: Advocating for First Nations Sovereignty” and discussions and presentations will surround First Nations communities coming together to protect the rights of First Nations’ peoples and continue to fight issues being faced across the province in first nations communities.
The Regional Chief Election will begin with candidates addressing leadership on June 12 at 10 a.m. and the election will continue into the afternoon. The newly elected Ontario Regional Chief will make the opening statements on the events final day on June 13.
