At UNBC’s Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) otherwise uneventful AGM in November it was revealed that the society-run coffee shop has enjoyed stupendous growth. Since 2020’s pandemic, Degrees Coffee Co. has posted consistent growth of approximately 20% year over year. NUGSS General Manager Doug Minaker extols the staff, “[Manager] Ryan Adams has been doing a fabulous job of keeping Degrees going.”
The budget won’t be blown on fireworks though, as the organization’s net growth was only $559. Most of what could be considered profit was directed towards transit passes and extended health & dental plan contributions. Past these services, student centre maintenance represented ongoing costs as did the ailing Thirsty Moose Pub. To encourage attendance, Minaker notes that this winter semester, customers can look forward to consistent pub hours, “This year when we say that we’re going to be open until 9pm, we’ll be open until 9pm.”
