Through the Alberta Community Justice Grant announced Jan. 30, the provincial government is providing $1.2 million to community justice programs throughout the province.
According to Denise Blair, executive director of the Calgary Youth Justice Society (CYJS), community justice programs, like her own, help people deal with non-serious criminal charges outside of the court system and within their communities. Blair said that the CYJS has been in the community for 25 years and has helped over 15,000 young people “find their way through tough life circumstances and sometimes poor choices that can hold them back from reaching their full potential.”
More details surrounding the grant can be found on their website.
