Cortes businesses are largely made up of “solopreneurs,” says business mentor, Tammy Collingwood. She has been hired by the Cortes Community Economic Development Association (CCEDA) to boost local economic well being.
Collingwood explains what the term “solopreneurs” means.
“What I like to refer to as the ‘solopreneur’…to make a business through self employment … you’re creating your own job. And so those are businesses as well. Often people think of businesses as something with lots of infrastructure and…it can be just a person like a gardener who has a business or a crafter at the market or a cleaner, so many folks here do have businesses.”
Collingwood discussed the results of the Tourism Planning Project, initiatives to increase tourist spending, educate tourists on existing paid activities, and extending economic activity before and beyond the summer season.
