For those who may want to increase their knowledge of Black history for Black History Month, the ‘Across the River to Freedom’ Project might be something to look into.
The Essex County Black Historical Research Society and the University of Windsor’s Leddy Library have partnered to curate many new Black history resources. Funded by the University of Windsor and the Gordie Howe Bridge Authority Community Investment Fund, the project has created three short documentaries, essays, curriculum resources, a new website, and a walking tour of Sandwich town, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Windsor.
The Across the River to Freedom Project helps to allow people to know about the rich history of Sandwich and it’s lasting impact on Windsor and Canada as whole. It will launch 7:00pm on January 29, at Mackenzie Hall, Windsor.
On January 25, CJAM spoke to the President of the Essex County Black Historical Research Society, Irene Moore Davis, about the project and its importance.
