Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is touting the results of a crackdown on violent and property crime that police dubbed “operation spotlight.”
Police decided to conduct the operation after the crime statistics for the first four months of 2023 showed that crimes against people, which APD Media Relations Officer Constable Artur Stele defined as, “assaulted, accosted, stolen from,” increased 23.3 per cent.
“We still, as AbbyPD, have a commitment to if we do see trends rising, we address that immediately,” Stele said.
The early results, Stele said, showed a 6.8 per cent decline in these types of crimes.
