Abbotsford’s efforts to address homelessness have led to a collaborative initiative with the introduction of Axis Abbotsford and the Community Homelessness Information Application (CHIA).
The goal is to enhance services, says Ross Siemens, Abbotsford’s mayor. The app was released in March.
In a CIVL Radio interview, Mayor Siemens discusses the city’s efforts to address its growing homeless population.
Siemens highlights the implementation of the homeless action plan, which birthed Axis Abbotsford, a collaborative roundtable involving government agencies, frontline workers, and advocacy groups.
From this initiative emerged CHIA, which enables frontline workers to coordinate and share real-time information on homeless encampments and available resources. Siemens said the app’s role in providing vital data to manage homelessness is important.
