Abbotsford Film Society (AFS) will show Shadow of the Rougarou, a 2022 horror-thriller flick directed by Vancouver-based Métis filmmaker Jordan Waunch.
The six-part series follows a young woman named sâkowêw, a Métis-Cree fur trader supporting the 1885 Northwest Resistance, and probes the terror cast by the Rougarou, a haunting werewolf-like creature from Métis mythology.
The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Theodore Starr, who played Kitchi in the film, and is also a Metis knowledge keeper and elder. “He actually was one of the people that Jordan consulted when he was writing the film to make sure that everything was historically and culturally as accurate as possible,” said Aaron Dawson, the president and founder of the Abbotsford Film Society.
The screening is on Wednesday July 17 at the Abbotsford Arts Centre Community Arts Addition, located at 2329 Crescent Way, Abbotsford. Doors open at 7 p.m.
