Woodland Cultural Centre (WCC) is currently showcasing an exhibit that explores the history of governance of the Six Nations community, chronicling the 100 years since the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council (HCCC) were ousted from power and the formation of the Elected Band Council in October 1924.
WCC Executive Director Heather George says the exhibit focuses on the challenges and changes that were faced on Six Nations, the history of the two governance systems still at work today, the influence of Deskaheh (Levi General), and the challenges and concerns coming from the youth today surrounding Six Nations.
George says she hopes people can come away from the exhibit with a better understanding of the history of governance on Six Nations and that some issues that were faced in the lead up to the formation of the Elected Band Council are issues that still hold relevance in the present day.
