Last Monday marks one year since Israel’s retaliation in the wake of Oct. 7. Since then, violence has escalated across Lebanon and innocent people continue to suffer.
More than 100 people gathered on Tuesday October 8 to share personal stories, reading poetry, leaving flowers and honouring the martyrs.
Neighbourhood groups including the Palestinian Youth Movement, Jews Say No to Genocide, the Health Workers Alliance for Palestine, Sisters in Solidarity and many others came together to honour them.
Atiya is one of the organizers with the University-Rosedale for Palestine. She says some estimates report there are at least 186,000 Palestinians killed since this escalation of Israel’s violence, according to The Lancet. This study indicates the death toll could be even higher due to the many unaccounted for who are still under the rubble.
