Six Nations will be receiving 100 acres of agricultural lands from a 2016 land transfer agreement with McClung Properties Ltd., a subsidiary of Empire Communities.
The deal states that Empire Communities agreed to transfer 200 acres over three transfers to Six Nations in return for Six Nations not stopping the construction process of 2,200 homes being constructed in the town of Caledonia. The three parcels of land are located on Haldimand Road 9 in the Oneida Township.
Lonny Bomberry, Six Nations Director of Lands and Resources, stated that the initial 75 acre transfer took place in 2018 when the Caledonia construction site hit 250 homes constructed, and, currently, 1,200 homes have been constructed in total. Under the agreement, Six Nations will now receive another 100 acres and the remaining 25 when the project is complete.
