GST Holiday Fails To Inspire Solstice Spirit in Some Local Retailers
The federal government’s GST Holiday is fast approaching, leaving businesses with a lot of unanswered questions.
From December 14, 2024, to February 15, 2025, select items will be exempt from the 5% GST. While businesses appreciate the conservation of consumers’ money, adjusting prices for specific items may cause administrative headaches.

Neil Godbout, Executive Director of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce , sees potential benefits but also confusion. He questions the goal, “There’s unintended consequences of encouraging more spending. At the same time of course it’s not really addressing the more important issues around affordability.”
