Wellington North to phase in cost recovery method for pricey cemetery
The Mount Forest Cemetery dominated discussion at Monday’s Wellington North council meeting, with the majority of the conversation surrounding costs to operate the township-owned facility.
The recommendation from staff was to phase in an increase in fees, such as those for burials and scattered gardens. The hike would be in accordance with the cost-of-living adjustment over a three-year period.
The cost of a scattered garden would jump to $200 from its current rate of $150.
Coun. Sherry Burke – in the end the only councillor in opposition to the motion to go with the recommended option – was hesitant to see fees increased without a thorough look at what the future holds for the property.
