Energy Conservation and Demand Management plan approved in Loyalist Township
Loyalist Township council approved the proposed Energy Conservation and Demand Management (ECDM) plan brought forward by the engineering and environment division.
The plan was drafted in line with provincial regulations, and will help Loyalist meet the goals within its ResiLient Climate Action Plan, according to the township. The ECDM plan provides an overview of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions across all township facilities. It also highlights conservation measures to be be implemented within the duration of the plan between 2024 and 2029.
Long-term emissions reduction goals have been identified based on the township’s 2031 target. Facilities that were identified as large contributors included the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre, and the township’s water and sewage treatment plants.
Staff take hydro and fuel consumption invoices for each facility and enter the data into an energy modelling software in order to compile the data for reporting. Once compiled, the summaries are submitted to the ministry prior to July 1 each year.
