Corner Brook motorists wake up to a slippery commute without enough sand trucks on ready
Yesterday was a tricky day for motorists in the city of Corner Brook. Overnight rain and snow froze quickly and residents woke to a slippery commute. One vehicle ended up on its roof on Maple Valley Drive and there were a number of fender benders throughout the city. Mayor Jim Parsons says staff didn’t have enough sand and salt trucks ready for the changeover in weather and that isn’t typically done until November 1st. Once trucks are changed over for sand and salt delivery, they can’t be used for anything else without reequipping them, and the city is wrapping up sidewalk and curb work before the construction season ends. The Mayor also says most motorists don’t have studded winter tires on yet. Studded tires are permitted as of this Friday.
