County asks Loyalist Township to consider donating land for affordable housing project
Loyalist Township council received a request from Lennox and Addington County this week asking them to consider donating a portion of land to construct mixed market affordable housing. The agreement would include an exemption for all development charges
County council agreed to explore a partnership with one of its lower-tier municipalities at their September 18 meeting, while Director of Social Services, Lynn Chenier, came to Loyalist Township council this week to formally make the request.
A working group was formed which included staff in social services, finance, property services, and economic development within the county. The group provided council with funding options and an estimate of costs to build high density social housing. They also reviewed existing county owned properties, but found no suitable properties for this type of project.
Staff noted that if the project were to move forward, all funding opportunities would be applied for.
