Lennox and Addington looks towards joining Federation of Canadian Municipalities
Lennox and Addington County council decided at their latest meeting that they’ll be sending Councillor Brian Calver to Calgary for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) conference in June.
Calver proposed attending the conference to see whether or not it would be worth it for the county to become an official member. According to his report, the cost of membership is $12,000.
Calver noted that the county is currently part of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO,) but stated that the FCM seems more suited to municipalities like Lennox and Addington.
The FCM includes more than 2,000 municipalities across the country. The list of members includes cities, rural and northern communities, as well as 20 provincial and territorial municipal associations. According to their website, the FCM advocates for municipalities so that their needs are reflected in federal policies and programs. Municipal leaders assemble each year to set FCM policy on key issues.
