Quebec Women’s Federation calls attention to cyberviolence on the 35th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre
December 6 marks the 35th anniversary of the Montreal massacre, when a gunman entered the Polytechnique school in Montréal and murdered 14 women in an act now understood to be misogynistic terrorism.
The day is designated as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
The Quebec Women’s Federation is using this time to raise awareness about cyberviolence, a form of violence that was not present in the pre-internet environment of 1989 when the massacre took place.
The Quebec Women’s Federation is an advocacy group active since 1966, aiming to build an equal and inclusive society through various campaigns. CJLO spoke with their awareness and Mobilization Lead Marina Mathieu about their new campaign to bring attention to online hatred and end what they call cyber-violence.
