In Quebec, a new coalition comes out against ‘wise men’ committee on gender identity
Last September saw the “1 Million March for Children,” where far-right and religious protestors asked for topics of gender and sexuality to be kept out of schools across Canada.
In response, the Quebec government launched a “wise-men committee” to advise on policies towards trans and non-binary people in December.
Launched on Monday, the Nous ne serons pas sages coalition brings together over 100 organizations, activists, and researchers to call for the dissolution of the wise-men committee or Comité des sages. CKUT spoke to coalition spokesperson Zaël Gourd.
When reached for comment by CKUT, the Office of the Minister of Families said that, “the Committee’s work will allow us to make our future decisions in a more informed manner and will help counter the misinformation that currently pollutes the public conversation.” They did not comment on the statements made by committee members discussed in this interview.
