UFV Cascades to host and make a play for Canada West Women’s Basketball Tournament
For the first time ever, the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) will play host to the Canada West Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Twelve teams from schools in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. will be in Abbotsford, facing off in games from Wednesday, Feb. 21 until finals on Sunday Feb. 25.
The UFV Cascades are entering the tournament among the top 4 teams, which has earned them a buy round.
The team will play their first game of the tournament on Thursday, Feb. 22 against a yet-undetermined opponent in the quarterfinals.
CIVL Radio interviewed head coach Al Tuchscherer in advance of the tournament. He said the team is concentrating on preparing to play who he believes will be the winner of the play-in round. “We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. I think all of our attention right now is focused on that first game, potentially playing [the University of] Regina,” said Tuchscherer.
