How can you animate stories? This is a question the new visiting exhibition at the Nanaimo Art Gallery is asking the public.
Stories that animate us is running at the gallery from Feb. 3 to April 7. It will feature work from 11 different artists, reflecting on the way stories are created by the themes of culture, community, memory, death and identity.
CHLY speak to Nanaimo Art Gallery curator Jesse Birch about the importance of the exhibition and what is was like brining it to Nanaimo.
As well CHLY speaks to Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo, whose work is being featured in the exhibition. He talks about how he uses art to tell the stories of the collective memories and historical trauma from when he lived in El Salvador during a civil war.
