In Terrace, the Ksan Society will host Coldest Night of the Year for the seventh year in a row on Feb. 24 and they are setting higher goals this year
The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) is a national walk held in winter in support of local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. CNOY is Ksan’s biggest annual fundraiser, the proceeds of which go towards meeting the increased needs for the homeless at this time of year.
Many community members rely on social service agencies like Ksan for shelter, meals, and other basic necessities. This demand increases as the cold deepens and folks seek protection from winter weather.
This year, the society is aiming to raise $35,000; last year, the goal was set for $30,000 and the event raised over $37,000.
As of Jan. 31, there are 18 teams and 77 walkers and Vicki Serafini, Ksans’ communications specialist, hopes to beat last year’s number of walkers (approximately 120 participants).
Serafini talked with CFNR about this year’s event and mentions the hope to have speakers at this year’s walk.
