The ReelOut Queer Film Festival is celebrating their 25th anniversary with their festival kicking off today.
ReelOut started back in 1999 as a working group project with Ontario Public Interest Research Group, with the goal of increasing visibility of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and supporting queer media artists around the world. The festival has become the second largest queer film festival in Ontario, and the longest-running film festival in Kingston.
“It’s kind of astounding to me to think about how different things were when we started the festival compared to how they are now,” said Marney McDiarmid, founder of ReelOut, in an interview with CFRC.
After going through over 400 submissions this year, ReelOut will be showcasing over 85 films from 35 different countries/diasporas between Feb. 1-10 at The Screening Room Cinema.
