For the first time, Northumberland County council has set a three-year budget.
The County Council includes the mayors of Cobourg, Port Hope, Hamilton Township, Alnwick/Haldimand Township, Cramahe Township, Brighton and Trent Hills.
Factoring in new one per cent levy amounts for both infrastructure and housing, the total tax levy increases amount to 6.57 per cent for 2024, 8.64 per cent for 2025 and 8.86 per cent for 2026
Budget highlights including sustained funding for homelessness supports and emergency shelter services and a new $241,000 new investment to support a 6-month pilot addiction treatment program; extension of the pilot Commuter Connect regional transit program, with a mid-year review planned for 2024; and advancement of the public-private partnership to deliver high-speed internet to all communities and businesses in Northumberland.
