The Police Village of Russell is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
The police village is a portion of the Village of Russell, which is within the Township of Russell, a part of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.
Part of celebrations marking this occasion are the unveiling of two murals illustrating some of the history of both the place and the people who helped build this community. Connie Johnston, volunteer, locally-known “trivia queen,” and fundraiser came into the CJRO studio to explain that the images came from actual historical photographs.
After they were chosen from the local museum archives they were used as the basis of the mural which was then painted by well-known artist Paul Schibli.
